Welcome to an exciting new year at Highcrest Middle School! We at Highcrest take so much pride in the academic and extra-curricular opportunities that abound for our fifth and sixth grade students. Through innovative programming and the partnership we have among our families, students, and staff, we are confident that your years at Highcrest will be some of your best in District 39!
The academic experience at Highcrest is one of high expectations and
21st century learning. Our students demonstrate the Characteristics of
Successful Learners throughout their day by persevering, listening
actively, thinking flexibly, and taking responsible risks. Achievement is
important in core subject areas such as reading, math, writing, social
studies, and science, as well as in subject areas such as world language,
related arts, and physical education. Our teachers work to challenge each
and ever, while making sure to have a little fun too!
This school year, we are excited to kick off the first day for all of our fifth
and sixth graders as they are all participants in our 5-8 1:1 Learning
program. We will continue our work Building a Better Highcrest this year,
and look forward to spirit days on Fridays as well as the Highcrest High-
A BIG THANK YOU to the amazing support from our PTO and our District
39 Educational Foundation, which allows us to offer many opportunities
for Highcrest students to get involved in our school, including working in
our beautiful garden, joining a club such as Minecraft, Math Counts, Girls
on the Run or chess, or by participating in the Science Olympiad
program. We also have athletic opportunities available to students
including fall cross country and spring track and field. Events such as
Freaky Friday and Fifth Grade Connections are also highlights of the HMS
I feel so fortunate to be a part of this awesome Highcrest community. We
are going to have a great year!
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. I am both humbled and excited to be a member of the Highcrest family as the 6th Grade Level
Administrator (GLAd). I am looking forward to working with many of the students from last year and witnessing how much they have matured and grown over the summer.
Our student(s) are surrounded by staff members who embrace the HMS mission statement, dedicated to providing a safe, responsible, respectful environment where all students learn and grow academically and socially as individuals, while developing the Characteristics of Successful Learners to help them succeed in the ever-changing global community.
We have wonderful parents and staff members at Highcrest. While our teachers challenge every student by differentiating instruction, our parents are very active volunteering and providing enrichment activities. The solid home-school partnership in District 39 is extraordinary and second to none. This partnership will help our students implement appropriate social and emotional skills as they navigate balancing friendships, interests, conflicts, and schoolwork.
Being a firm believer in open communication, you are always welcome to contact me.
I could not be more proud to be the 5th Grade Level Administrator (GLAd) at Highcrest Middle School and a member of the Wilmette community. I began at WJHS in 2008 teaching science, math, and social studies before transitioning in 2010 to teaching 8th grade science full time. Outside the classroom, I have been the coach of the cross country and track and field teams, a sponsor of student council, and a sponsor of the inspired youth tutoring program.
After graduating from New Trier High School, I attended the University of Illinois (Go Illini!) majoring in Education with a middle school endorsement. In 2012, I earned my Master’s in Administration and Supervision from National Louis University.
I loved every minute of my time at WJHS teaching and helping students to grow while transitioning off to high school. However, I am thrilled to be a Highcrest Hawk where I am committed to helping our 5th graders transition to middle school and continue to develop both in and out of the classroom. Wilmette is truly a great community with awesome students whom I believe will make a positive difference in this world.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends; running; and going to sporting events - especially at Wrigley Field (this is the year!).
l look forward to my second year as the 5th Grade Level Administrator and working with you to best meet the needs of all our students. Please feel to contact me anytime as my door (or email) are always open. I know this will be a fantastic year!
