Administrators' Welcome

Administrators' Welcome Message

Kelly Jackson
Administrator for 5-8 Education

Welcome to an exciting new year at Highcrest Middle School!  At Highcrest we take pride in the academic and extra-curricular opportunities that abound for our fifth and sixth grade students. Through innovative programming and the partnership we have among our families, students, and staff, we are confident that your years at Highcrest will be some of your best in District 39!

The academic experience at Highcrest is one of high expectations and 21st century learning. Our students demonstrate characteristics that make them successful throughout their day by persevering, listening actively, thinking flexibly, and taking responsible risks. Meeting learning targets consistently is important in core subject areas such as reading, math, writing, social studies, and science, as well as in subject areas such as world language, related arts, and physical education. Our teachers work to challenge each and every student to meet targets and expand on their learning, while making sure to have a little fun too!

This school year we are excited to have a new office to welcome all of our fifth and sixth graders, and look forward to opening four new classrooms later in the winter.  We continue to encourage H.A.W.K.S. conduct, and can’t wait to celebrate all of our H.A.W.K.S. through spirit days and weekly H.A.W.K.S. High Fives!

A BIG THANK YOU to the amazing support from our PTO and our District 39 Educational Foundation, which allow us to offer many opportunities for Highcrest students to get involved in our school, and for partnering with us to make HMS a great place to learn and grow.

We are going to have a great year!  #weareHAWKS

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! I am extremely excited to be joining Highcrest as the 6th Grade Level Administrator.

The middle school years can be exciting and challenging for both students and parents alike. As the mother of three boys, the oldest of whom will be a junior in college and the youngest a 6
th grader, I am keenly aware that the learning and relationships made during these years, both personal and academic, help shape the adults our students grow to be. I hope to support your student by helping them learn and grow from each situation and by encouraging their innate curiosity and interests.

I am honored to be a part of the exemplary learning community in District 39.  This will be my third year in District 39 as I was previously at WJHS where I was an 8th grade Learning Behavior Specialist.  Prior to Wilmette, I taught at North Shore Academy, Niles North High School and Logandale Middle School in Chicago.  I hold both a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University.

I look forward to a wonderful school year!

I could not be more proud to be the 5th Grade Level Administrator (GLAd) at Highcrest Middle School and a member of the Wilmette community. I began at WJHS in 2008 teaching science, math, and social studies before transitioning in 2010 to teaching 8th grade science full time. Outside the classroom, I have been the coach of the cross country and track and field teams, a sponsor of student council, and a sponsor of the inspired youth tutoring program.

After graduating from New Trier High School, I attended the University of Illinois (Go Illini!) majoring in Education with a middle school endorsement. In 2012, I earned my Master’s in Administration and Supervision from National Louis University.

I loved every minute of my time at WJHS teaching and helping students to grow while transitioning off to high school. However, I love being a Highcrest Hawk, where I am committed to helping our 5th graders transition to middle school and continue to develop both in and out of the classroom. Wilmette is truly a great community with awesome students whom I believe will make a positive difference in this world.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends; running; and going to sporting events - especially at Wrigley Field!

l look forward to my fourth year as the 5th Grade Level Administrator and working with you to best meet the needs of all our students. Please feel to contact me anytime as my door (or email) are always open. I know this will be a fantastic year!
