Welcome to Central Elementary School!
Central School serves a population of approximately 500 children (kindergarten through fourth grade) who reside in the eastern portion of Wilmette. Students are friendly, respectful, and enthusiastic about learning. Most children enter kindergarten with two years of pre-school and demonstrate high levels of “readiness” to learn.
The parents of our students expect quality education for their children. They value the school's commitment to meeting the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of children. Central parents monitor their children's progress and communicate openly with school personnel. Embracing the school’s mission to “prepare students for a rapidly changing and challenging future by developing intelligence that is both academic and character-centered,” students and parents join with teachers and administrators to form strong home-school partnerships. Our PTA has an active Executive Committee that provides leadership to a Board of over 40 committees or positions including Art Awareness, Book Fair, Civics and Safety, and Environmental Awareness.
Central staff members are life-long learners who participate in professional development and collaborative planning. Many staff members have advanced degrees and certificates with many years of teaching experience. Our staff is trained in differentiated instruction that is enriched by technology and the arts. Within the building, we offer a team of related arts teachers (PE, library, music, art, technology, Spanish). We also have learning behavior specialists, speech pathologists, a school psychologist, an occupational therapist, a social worker, a differentiation support teacher, reading teachers, and English language teachers. These “specialists” ensure that we are meeting the needs of all the children.
Here at Central, we welcome you as a partner in your child’s education. Your contributions to your child’s education at home and at school are sincerely valued and greatly appreciated.
Warmest Regards Always,
Becky
